Place and History of Origin of the Exhibition

Museum of Jewish Resistance in Novogrudok during the Holocaust is situated on the premises of the vocational school # 193 (64-66, Minskaya str.). A ghetto with the status of a labour camp was situated here, on the territory of the former court house, from August 7, 1942 till September 26, 1943.

It is also the place where the first selection took place on December 8, 1941 when about 80% of the Jewish community of  Novogrudok was massacred in the forest near the village of Skrydlevo.

The memorial consists of the court house building, houses where the workshops of the labour camp were established, a well and a living barrack. The exhibition is situated in the former barrack and includes two reconstructed living rooms, shows the tunnel entrance and presents two main acts of Jewish resistance in Novogrudok – escape through the tunnel and Jewish partisan detachment under Tuvia Bielski, which make Novogrudok unique in the history of the Holocaust in general.
